In short: Luggage Storage Hub is at Via Palazzuolo 170, about a 4-minute walk from the platforms of Firenze Santa Maria Novella. It is self-service, open every day from 7:00 to 23:00, and lockers start at €1.90 for the first hour.
Santa Maria Novella (SMN) is where almost every visitor to Florence arrives or leaves: high-speed trains from Rome, Milan and Venice, regional trains from Pisa and Lucca, the T2 tram from the airport and most intercity buses all stop within a few hundred metres. It is also where the same question comes up again and again: what do I do with my suitcase for the next few hours?
This guide explains how to reach our lockers from the station, what it costs, and how to use the time you gain.
How to walk from the station to Via Palazzuolo 170
- Get off the train and walk to the end of the platforms (the main hall, “testa dei binari”).
- Take the exit on your right and go down the steps.
- Cross the street and walk straight along Via degli Orti Oricellari.
- Keep going straight until you reach Via Palazzuolo: our storage room is at number 170. Total time: about 4 minutes, even with a wheeled suitcase.
The route is flat, with wide pavements, so it is easy even with two trolleys or a stroller. You can open our How to reach us page on your phone for the same directions.
Tip: register online while you are still on the train. You receive your personal access code immediately, so when you arrive you can walk straight in.
Why store your bags just outside the station instead of inside it
Stations are busy, and queues for staffed left-luggage desks can be long in peak season, exactly when you are in a hurry. A self-service room a few minutes away has three practical advantages:
- No queue for a counter: you enter with your code, pay at the kiosk and close the locker yourself.
- You keep the key: nobody else handles your bags, and only your code opens the door.
- Same distance to the sights: the Duomo, San Lorenzo and the Mercato Centrale are 7–12 minutes on foot from Via Palazzuolo, just as from the station.

Prices for station travellers
You pay only for the hours you use. The first hour is paid when you open the locker and any difference is settled when you collect your bags.
| Time | Medium locker 1 large suitcase or 2 trolleys | Large locker 2 large suitcases or 4 trolleys |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | €1.90 | €2.90 |
| 3 hours | €5.90 | €7.90 |
| 5 hours | €9.90 | €13.90 |
| 7 hours | €13.90 | €17.90 |
| 24 hours | €15.90 | €18.90 |
| Each extra day | €9.90 | €10.90 |
One locker is charged per unit, not per bag: a couple with two carry-ons and two backpacks usually fits in one medium locker. Full price list: our lockers and prices.
What you can do in the hours before your train

- A full day: book the Uffizi or the Accademia, or take a train to Pisa or Lucca and come back in the evening. We close at 23:00, so plan your return accordingly.
